To mark the centenary of the composer’s birth in 1913 our concert is entitled In Memoriam Benjamin Britten.
The concert includes two settings of the Te Deum by Britten; the one in C major and the Festival Te Deum in E, as well as the work for strings and bell,In Memoriam Benjamin Britten, written by Arvo Pärt – a great admirer of Britten.
In addition there is a performance of the little known workAn Oxford Elegy, for strings, organ, chorus and narrator, by Vaughan Williams, one of Britten’s contemporaries. The Narrator and Baritone soloist is Edward Caswell.
The concert finishes with a performance of theRequiemby Maurice Duruflé – another of Britten’s contemporaries.
