Bangalore Dreams – Jyotsna Srikanth 19th November
Welcome back to the Blue Lamp for Bangalore Dreams and violinist Jyotsna - ‘an extraordinary and versatile violinist…... free flowing, often mesmerising..’ (The Guardian). ‘Cross-over’ could have been invented for this virtuoso of the Indian violin: not only is Jyotsna Srikanth the queen of Carnatic music from southern India, she is a leading exponent of Indian jazz and experimental music, with a technique rooted in Western classical music. Her recitals combine a deep understanding of traditional music with a jazz and a contemporary touch. This rare balance between tradition and modernity has helped her carve a unique niche, captivating audiences across the globe. She is a veteran of WOMAD, the BBC Proms, eight albums and nearly 200 Bollywood films.
In "Bangalore Dreams", she is accompanied by two south Indian rhythm instruments: the mridangam, a two-sided drum, and the ghatam, the clay pot.
