Bernard MacLaverty is a renowned and much loved novelist and short story writer, born in Ireland but living in Glasgow for many years. His connection with Aberdeen is also strong - he was the University’s Writer-in-Residence in the 1980s.

His short stories have been compared to those of Chekhov and his novels include Cal and Lamb, both of which have been made into successful films. This year he publishes his first new novel in 16 years, Midwinter Break. It has been favourably received by the likes of Colm Toibin and Richard Ford and is already being hailed as a masterpiece.
