Part of DanceLive 2015
Citymoves Studio, Schoolhill
Dancer is a gentle provocation on what it is to be a ‘dancer’ created by learning disabled artist Ian Johnston, Gary Gardiner and the late Adrian Howells. Ian and Gary both love to dance in public. Neither are trained dancers. Sometimes their dancing is all jerky and thrusty, sometimes it’s all floaty and ethereal, sometimes it’s all flaming and outrageously camp, and sometimes they’re sitting, silent and completely still. But they are always dancing inside. Ian and Gary are two artists asking questions about visibility, opportunity and experiences; as well as sharing a few of their moves, to songs by some of their favourite artists, including Kylie Minogue, Lady Gaga and Nick Cave.
