La Serenissima is one of the UK’s leading historical performance ensembles. Directed by Adrian Chandler, the group specializes in the music of Antonio Vivaldi and his contemporaries. They have performed worldwide to great acclaim and in 2010 won a Gramophone Award.
The Four Seasons remains the most popular piece of classical music of all time. In the year in which La Serenissima comes of age (we’ll be 21!), we will be presenting these fabulous concertos, using a new edition made by violinist Adrian Chandler from the only surviing manuscript version.
The Four Seasons is accompanied by works fo bassoon including the famous La Notte concerto. In addition, for the first time since the eighteenth century, La Serenissima will perform two concertos for ‘prepared violin’, the violin in tomba marina.
"[The concertos] are played with skill and taste… The orchestral sound, as always with La Serenissima, achieves bright attractiveness and vivacity.“ Gramophone Magazine
