In many contemporary campaigns for self-determination, language is a central, even a defining issue. In this lecture, Professor Rob Dunbar Chair of Celtic at the University of Edinburgh, will explore the rather curious place of Gaelic in the 2014 referendum debate, the rather equivocal relationship between the language community and the question of Scottish independence, and the prospects for the language after the vote, whatever the outcome. Gaelic and non Gaelic speakers welcome.
