Jazz at the Blue Lamp and sound Festival presents

Graeme Stephen Quartet

Sunrise – A song Of two humans

Thursday 24th October 2013 Start 8.00pm

Jazz at the Blue Lamp and Sound Festival present the album launch of Graeme's new double CD of Sunrise and Nosferatu scores..

Award-winning Aberdeen-born guitarist Graeme Stephen won the Innovation award at the 2012 Scottish Jazz Awards for his powerful new score that brings a modern perspective to accompany Murnau’s 1927 visual masterpiece. Harnessing influences from various musical styles including folk, classical and jazz, Graeme will be performing with a world-class band featuring, Ben Davis (cello), Phil Bancroft (saxophone) and Chris Wallace (drums/percussion).

The show involves the projection of the classic silent movie Sunrise accompanied by the quintet’s performance of Graeme’s specially written soundtrack.  There will also be a short set of Graeme's own compositions.

*****...Stephen’s daring writing and willingness to complement conventional lyricism with sonic experiment makes for a powerful experience.” Scotsman Review

****...Guitarist Graeme Stephen has emerged as one the Scottish jazz scene's most capable, exportable and distinctive talents. His group is a beacon of original, ambitious and brilliantly realised music.” Herald Review
