Jazz at the Blue Lamp presents Jazz from Denmark-With Qarin Wikstrom and Maria Faust

 Jazz from Denmark

Tonight’s concert presents two young jazz musicians from Denmark.  We will hear solo and duet performances from these sparklingpurveyors of modern jazz from Denmark.

Qarin Wikströmis a Swedish singer and composer resident in Copenhagen.

She´s involved  a number of bands and leader of Sekten who won a Danish music award for the album "annars är det tyst".

Her music lives in the outskirts of jazz; a blend of genres and sounds that  includes pop, avantgarde, nordic folklore and swedish funk from the 70´s.
She appears on recordings with other Danish prizewinning bands such as Efterklang and Grammofunch.

Maria Faust is an Estonian saxophone player and composer living in Copenhagen, Denmark best known in the fields of contemporary jazz, modern big band music, improvised music and other more alternative music styles. She is a member and co-founder of the musical collective and record label Barefoot Records.

Maria Faust is a multiple winner of Danish Music Awards 2014 in categories “Jazz Composer of the Year” and “Cross-over Record of the Year”. She has been nominated to Estonian Music Awards several times.

Maria leads many of her own bands, including Maria Faust Jazz Catastrophe, Maria Faust Sacrum Facere and Shitney Spears, as well as playing solo concerts and being a member of other smaller constellations. Her newest impro constellations involve natural sounds of the instruments, as well as electronics and organic props (such as water and the human voice). Her bands have played the major music festivals in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, Italy, Germany and have toured in Europe, USA, Russia and China.
