Lost in Translation: The Value of Multilingualism
Linklater Rooms, University of Aberdeen
Sunday 29th May 11.30am to 1.00pm
A multi-disciplinary seminar on why languages are important: this session will include short presentations from researchers active in psychology, anthropology, translation studies and sociolinguistics. Do bilinguals really have better cognitive functions? What does it matter if languages die out? How does translation limit or add to our knowledge of other cultures? After the presentations and panel discussion, there will be an opportunity for people to access taster classes in Mandarin, Scots, Swedish and Gaelic.
