Zimbabwean writer Shamiso Zvandasara is a singer, songwriter, poet and novelist, whose recent book, The Tale of Anerudo, a contemporary folktale, follows the struggles of the heroine to overcome the restrictions surrounding her in an engaging mixture of song lyrics and prose narrative. Contending with cerebral palsy from a young age herself, she often addresses questions of gender equality, disability, mental health and albinism, and explores cultural practices and constraints on women within an African context.
