Professor Jianfei Zhang from Wuhan University will talk about Chinese plants in British landscape and literature, and British plants in Chinese landscape and literature. In the 18th and 19th century, the cultivation of exotic plants from China created new aesthetic and imaginative possibilities in Britain. Many plants that we think of in the typical British garden such as hydrangeas and clematis are actually imports from China.
