Music of the North East
Sunday 20 April 2014, 18:30 start
The original North East traditional music orchestra are back on stage, showcasing the music of their homeland, with tributes paid to great fiddle masters past and present such as Marshall, Milne, Skinner, MacAndrew and Nicolson.
Massed fiddles and accordions will be backed up by piano and bass to produce a scorching sound sure to awaken your senses. Uptempo jigs and reels star alongside stunning airs and waltzes, including a beautiful piece entitled “The Auld Brig o’ Don”, composed by the first ever leader of the society.
Led by musical director Nick Cowling, the senior orchestra will be supported by special guest compere Ron Gardner, Sheila Reid’s talented junior orchestra and “STRATH”, a lively ceilidh band plucked from within the society’s gifted membership.
For lovers of the fiddle, and those keen to explore Aberdeen’s traditional musical history, this is a show not to be missed.
