NAFCo Blue Lamp Soiree: Jani & Janos * Blyde Lasses * Fru Skagerrak at the Blue Lamp

Doors 8.30pm starts 9pm

Jani Lang & János Kállai, Blyde Lasses, and Fru Skagerrak

The NAFCo finale at Sandy’s bar brings together the traditions of raw Scandinavia and Scotland’s Shetland with Hungary’s Gypsy music – Wow!

Fru Skagerrak is a remarkable fiddle trio named after the sea that connects their three countries – from Denmark, Maja Kjær Jacobsen, from Norway, Elise Wessel Hildrum, and from Sweden, Anna Lindblad. Their music takes you on a journey through Scandinavia; from lowlands to mountains, from slow airs to lively polskas, in major and in minor, and everything in between.

“Effortless beauty, grooving dance energy, and elegant arrangements. Not to be missed!" Natalie Haas

Blyde Lasses, the ‘glad girls’ in Shetlandic, Frances Wilkins (concertina) and Claire White (fiddle and voice) perform traditional, contemporary and self-penned Shetland songs and tunes. They have been captivating audiences across the world since 2006. Their performances are as rich in stories as they are in music, and give an intriguing glimpse into Shetland’s musical traditions. Over the past few years they have toured in the UK, Ireland, New Zealand, Canada, Norway, Estonia and the UAE.

Jani Lang (fiddle) and Janos Kallai (cimbalom) are two Roma musicians who are masters of Eastern-European Gypsy music from Hungary, Transylvania and the wider Balkan region. The excitement of their music with their unbridled virtuosity is breathtaking. If you are not sure what to expect from a cimbalom just imagine what a piano might sound like out of its box and without the mechanisms – astonishing!

The NAFCo Blue Lamp Soirées showcase of some of NAFCo’s finest musicians in one of Aberdeen’s legendary traditional, folk and acoustic music venues. Cabaret-style seating and candles set the ambience for an intimate evening of fabulous performances and musical exploration.
