Our Fathers threads together Edmund Gosse’s book Father and Son with an exploration of faith and conflict resolution in the 21st century in a playful, very personal new play.
Father and Son is Gosse’s memoir of his upbringing in a strict, Christian family. A gulf gradually emerged between the book-loving Edmund and his father - an evangelical preacher and renowned scientist - as Edmund realised he couldn’t share his father’s beliefs.
When his own clergyman father suggested he should read the book, Nicholas Bone assumed it would reveal something about their own relationship. He’s still trying to work out what it is he’s looking for in the book, and fellow-clergyman’s son Rob Drummond is trying to help him.
The first collaboration between two distinctive theatre-makers, Rob Drummond’s previous work includes Bullet Catch and Grain in the Blood, Nicholas Bone’s work with Magnetic North includes Walden and Sex & God.
