“You could have heard a pin drop. Steven Osborne’s power over the hall was absolute…the atmosphere was spellbound” Daily Telegraph
Awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society award for Instrumentalist of the Year in 2013, Steven Osborne has firmly established himself as one of the world’s leading concert pianists. He is renowned for his idiomatic approach to a wide range of repertoire from the mainstream classical music of Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms, to the rarified worlds of Messiaen, Tippett and Britten. He is in demand around the world for both concerto and recital performances, and plays regularly in top venues with leading orchestras and conductors.
He returns home to Scotland for this exclusive duo of concerts in Aberdeen celebrating the solo piano repertoire of two of the greatest composers for the medium. Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Schubert both lived and worked in Vienna in the early 1800s. Schubert held Beethoven in the higest esteem, and the feeling was obviously mutual as Beethoven declared on his deathbed that “Truly in Schubert there is the divine spark“.
“Steven Osborne’s performances up and down the country have confirmed his pre-eminence among British pianists. His un-showy brilliance, integrity, and very wide repertoire have long marked him out, but what now emerges most strongly is the unique magic of his sound combined with a profound musical intelligence.“ RPS Instrumentalist of the Year May 2013
