Aberdeen Performing Arts and Interesting Music Promotions present The Phantom Band plus support from Supermoon (formerly Meursault)
If you’ve followed The Phantom Band throughout their career to-date then you’ll know two things of the Glaswegian six-piece: feast often follows famine, and you should never accept them merely at face value.
Just as two wildly singular, diverse albums in Checkmate Savage and The Wants sprung up one after another between 2009 and 2010, before a period of quiet (solo projects notwithstanding), so the group’s more direct third record released in June 2014 - Strange Friend – more art-rock than rock-art – comes followed by seven tracks cut largely from the same recording sessions at Chem 19 in Blantyre, in the form of Fears Trending, released 26th January 2015 on Chemikal Underground.
" a thrillingly inventive band" ★★★★ Uncut
"The Phantom Band's debut was one unique record, charged with the notion that rock music has far from exhausted its every possibility. The Wants is the same, but bolder, richer, its components more cleverly integrated...Amazing." ★★★★ Mojo
"As grand as their 2009 debut Checkmate Savage was, it's unlikely even The Phantom Band themselves envisaged something as remarkable as The Wants for it's follow up" ★★★★ Q
"if you've ever wondered what Can getting glitchy with the Stooges at a barn dance might sound like, here's your answer" ★★★★ The Independent
"a bewitching mix of gothic folk, krautrock, doo-wop and electro" ★★★★ The Guardian
"There are traces of Neu!, Captain Beefheart, Van Morrison, the Velvet Underground and Doll By Doll in the mix, but the final sweep of sound is courageously - and wonderfully - uniquely their own." ★★★★ The Observer
