Aberdeen Performing Arts presents True North – Aberdeen’s festival of music and song – celebrating the North-east's singer songwriter tradition and providing a platform for the very best music and song, from ballads to contemporary classics, taking place from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 September at The Lemon Tree, Music Hall and in various locations across Aberdeen’s city centre.
To celebrate Neil Young’s 70th birthday this year, a host of songwriting talent will gather at the Music Hall in Aberdeen to pay tribute to the music of one of the most seminal and influential songwriters of our time. From his band work with Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, through to his own stellar solo career, “Shakey” has been responsible for authoring some of the greatest songs known to popular music. Led by houseband Roddy Hart & The Lonesome Fire, the stage will be filled with an exciting array of both established and emerging artists – all notable songwriters in their own right – who will tackle the work of that most mercurial and seeking of troubadours.
Artists Eddi Reader, Del Amitri’s Justin Currie, Admiral Fallow, Emma Pollock, Withered Hand, Blue Rose Code, Tommy Reilly, Rab Noakes and Zervas & Pepper will all perform their own personal Neil favourites to honour his genius, in a concert that promises to highlight all sides of a songwriter so inspirational, exceptional and evergreen.
