Aberdeen Performing Arts presents True North – Aberdeen’s festival of music and song – will take place in venues around the city from Thursday 22 - Sunday 25 September. The festival is inspired by the fantastic heritage of singer-songwriters in the North-east, and features a line-up of iconic musicians and emerging talent.

The Anatomy Rooms, Marischal College

Participants: This workshop will be exclusively for female musicians, aged 16+. Participants should have some musical experience as the workshop will be of an intermediate level.

‘Here Come the Girls’ is a unique opportunity for young emerging female songwriters to spend a weekend with two inspirational musicians honing their craft and learning about the industry. The programme will be led by multi-platinum selling singer-songwriter Fiona Bevan, who has worked with many of the industry’s leading names including a recent venture with Ed Sheeran and One Direction. She will be assisted by talented Irish singer-songwriter Kal Lavelle who is seen as one of the UK’s most exciting new voices.

This relaxed and informal workshop weekend will give participants the opportunity to explore and experiment with support, guidance and advice from Fiona and Kal. They will share tips and techniques about the art of song-writing, as well as passing on their experiences of progressing in the music industry, specifically addressing the additional challenges which may face women.
