To mark the historic period when the Music Hall closed its door to prepare for transformation, we commissioned four talented artists to create new work - inspired by the building’s rich history and with an eye on its bright future.

Simon James, sound artist: Simon weaved together an intricate soundscape and audio celebration of the Music Hall’s history and stories.

Jonathan Bean, photographer: Jonathan produced a body of work documenting the building at the moment of closure - its familiar front of house, its nooks and crannies and behind the scenes, capturing staff, audiences and performers who worked and performed over the closing Lights Oot! weekend.

Aidan O’Rourke, musician and Jason Singh, sound artist: Aidan and Jason created and performed Hibernation, the dramatic and moving final piece of music played on the Music Hall stage before we locked the doors for transformation and the next phase of the Music Hall’s illustrious life to begin.

These contributed to the closing series of concerts and events in Spring 2016:

11-19 March 2016: Classical concert series
Closing season with the 3 national orchestras: BBC SSO, Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Royal Scottish National Orchestra featuring Music Hall Ambassador, Nicola Benedetti.

31 March 2016: Connect:ed
Performance with APA Associate Artists and Music Hall Ambassadors, Aidan O’Rourke and Jason Singh and a host of local talent.

1 April 2016: Your Hall Your Story
