Associate Artists Sound: Simon James

Simon James has been experimenting with sound and music for over 20 years creating adventurous radio, experimental audio collage and dramatic music. His sound designs, sound engineering and music have featured on many BBC Radio programmes, and he recently performed a live space ritual in Dome B at Herstmonceux Observatory - his Moog synthesiser recordings under the name The Simonsound often explore themes of science fantasy, space exploration and Cold War tension.

This, and other records including The Beam, a radiophonic ride aboard a fantastical mid-century Monorail, have been championed by Nick Luscombe on BBC Radio 3. His most recent release as black channels on Death Waltz Records was highlighted by MOJO for its “swirling cauldron of noir-ish synth psychedelics, rain patter beats and pure soaring vocals”, and was selected by Q Magazine as Track of the Day.
