manipulate Visual Theatre Festival 2018 - 26th-27th January 2018

We are pleased to be a part of this year’s manipulate Visual Festival 2018. We have two great shows coming to the Lemon Tree over the weekend of the 26-27th January.  This includes Off Kilter, which is a show suitable for the deaf, or hard of hearing.

This is a great chance to see something a bit different, these shows have received rave reviews and it will certainly give you something to think about.

Off Kilter - Friday 26 January 2018

At work and in his home, Joe Kilter has his daily set routines. Although some people think Joe is obsessive, Joe would prefer not be thought of at all. When an unexpected event changes his everyday habits Joe's world is turned askew. His life is no longer his own, he's off his game... Joe Kilter is most definitely off-kilter.

Feeling more and more isolated, Joe's life seems increasingly impossible and perhaps the only solution is to exist in darkness. Exploring mental well-being, identity, and those unsettling times when you feel a little bit different from everyone else, Off-Kilter is a darkly comedic visual theatre productions, incorporating illusions, masterful physicality and dynamic, non-verbal storytelling.

Ramesh Meyyappan's award-winning solo performances and collaborations have toured extensively, both nationally and internationally to much critical acclaim, most recently with his production, Butterfly, which was presented at manipulate at 2015. Ramesh is currently part of the Design Team for new BA Degree for Deaf Actors at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

The Song of the Goat - Saturday 27 January 2018

Song of the goat

In a perfect suburban setting of manicured lawns, gingham as chic and the wild excesses of 1950's rock and roll, three neighbours gather for the funeral of a goat, a victim of a heinous crime. The culprit is still at large…

A tiny but universal tragedy, played by three comedians and a crazy musician. An acerbic, funny, bitter-sweet tale that questions: is like worth living? Does love really exist? Is revenge a dish better served hot or cold. And how much is the love of a goat really worth?

Combining humourous, poetric object theatre and highly-skilled clowning, this tragicomic story described how a new neighbour with harmless differences can unknowingly shatter fragile surface harmonies which shelter much darker tones. A cautionary tale about the illusory lure of contemporary consumer society... starring a goat.

Since 2003, Compagnie à, one of France's leading ensembles has created brilliantly funny and challenging productions which, behind the humour and play, explore the social and political contexts within which we live through the absurdities and nonsense of everyday life. Over the past five years Song of the Goat has been presented to great acclaim throughout Europe.
