Aberdeen's panto queen Elaine C Smith is brushing up her housekeeping skills to lead the cast of the city's biggest and much-loved pantomime at His Majesty's Theatre, Beauty and the Beast.
And she surprised unsuspecting passers-by at the Bon Accord shopping Centre today with some early panto magic by getting into character for her role as housekeeper Mrs Potty serving high tea to the Beast.
The show is already on target to be the city theatre's SEVENTH record-breaking panto. Last year's production of Cinderella was the second in succession to break the £1million milestone in ticket sales before the opening night performance - the first was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 2012.
In this year's production, Aberdeen panto favourites Alan McHugh will don his frock once again in the role of Dame Kitty Brewster and Jordan Young will be up to mischief as role of Boabby Brewster.
Beauty and the Beast is produced by Qdos Entertainment, the world's foremost pantomime producer, and staged by the same team that presented last year's critically-acclaimed Cinderella.
Qdos Entertainment's managing director and executive producer of Beauty and the Beast, Michael Harrison said:
"We are thrilled that the stellar cast of this year's panto, Elaine C Smith, Alan McHugh and Jordan Young are once again returning to entertain the crowds in Aberdeen at His Majesty's Theatre this Christmas. This dazzling new production is packed with amazing effects and is proving to be the hottest ticket in the North-east."
APA chief executive Jane Spiers said: "We are very proud that every year more and more people come to see the HMT show and are delighted that one of the top panto teams in the country calls our theatre their home for the Christmas season.
"I know Aberdeen audiences regard Elaine with affection and awe; she, Alan and Jordan are first class entertainers and an unstoppable panto force creating unforgettable magic on our stage.
"We've had six years of record panto ticket sales and with over 37,300 tickets already booked for this year it looks as if this run will continue.
"Like a lot of other people, I can't wait for opening night and for the curtain to rise on one of the must-see Christmas treats in the North-east."
Beauty and the Beast runs at His Majesty's Theatre from Saturday, November 29 to Sunday, January 4, and tickets are available online at www.aberdeenperformingarts.com, by phone at 01224 641122 and at Aberdeen Box Office at the Music Hall and His Majesty's Theatre.
