The summer holidays are just around the corner and Aberdeen Performing Arts (APA) has just the ticket for young people interested in the arts. Two Summer School programmes will run in July 2017, offering aspiring performers the chance to get to grips with theatre.
Youngsters from P4 to P7 can come along to the Junior Summer School sessions between Monday 24 - Friday 28 July and get to know the building blocks of theatre and music performance. Each class is packed with fun and plenty of opportunities to make friends. Children will create their own unique mini-performance for family and friends to see at the end of the week.
For secondary school students from S1 to S6, the Senior Summer School between Monday 17– Friday 21 July is a chance to really focus on devising and acting skills and techniques as members devise a play in a week. This is a chance for aspiring performers to have their moment in the limelight, as they will perform their very own, fully staged production in The Lemon Tree’s 166-seat Studio theatre. Family, friends and the people of Aberdeen are invited to enjoy the performance at the close of the week.
Classes for both Summer Schools take place in the Education Suite at His Majesty’s Theatre and will be led by APA’s talented and experienced tutors, Kirsty Robertson, Music Development Coordinator, and Anna Plasberg-Hill, Drama Development Coordinator.
APA’s Creative Learning Manager Lisa Mathieson said: “These classes are a great chance for young people who are interested in acting, drama and music to learn new skills and find out what goes on behind the scenes when putting on a production.’’
“If you’re looking for something to keep your young children happy, safe and engaged then it’s the perfect solution for the summer holiday, and for secondary school students it’s a fantastic opportunity to perform in front of an audience on a professional stage in Aberdeen. Come along and learn something new, meet like-minded people and have fun!”
