American television, stage, and film actress and singer Lorna Luft – daughter of Judy garland and half-sister of Liza Minnelli – is joining the cast of the hugely popular show, An Evening of Movies and Musicals, coming to Aberdeen’s Music Hall on Friday, April 18.
The spectacular show also stars X Factor winner Joe McElderry, West End and Broadway leading lady Kerry Ellis and ITV's Superstar star Nathan James, who is currently touring as lead singer on Trans Siberian Orchestra World Tour.
The daughter of legendary performer Judy Garland and her third husband Sid Luft, Lorna appeared in her first Broadway musical, Promises, Promises, in 1971 and made several guest appearances on such shows as Love American Style and The Love Boat.
In addition to her Broadway success, she made her film debut with Grease 2 (1982) and has written an autobiography called Me and My Shadows: A Family Memoir.
In October last year, Lorna performed with her half-sister Liza for the first time in 20 years, at two Pink Party shows in New York City, in support of The Actors Fund's Phyllis Newman Women's Health Initiative and Tower Cancer Research Foundation.
“We are delighted to have a major Broadway star like Lorna as a special guest in the Music Hall on what is sure to be a spectacular evening of musicals magic,” said Ben Torrie, director of programming and creative projects at Aberdeen Performing Arts.
"Her family is of course part of Hollywood legend and to have her singing on the same stage as Kerry Ellis and Joe McElderry is going to make it a show-stopping night.”
An Evening of Movies and Musicals has become a sensation since it debuted in early 2012 with a sell-out concert in Cardiff.
Featuring the music of John Williams, Hans Zimmer, James Horner and many more, the show has sold out every date so far and received glowing acclaim from press and public alike.
John Owen Jones, Ruthie Henshall, Gareth Gates, Christopher Biggins & Keith Jack have all performed in this show over the last 12 months.
The production includes a 50-piece professional onstage orchestra playing the hits from favourite films and the stars singing the smash hits from much-loved musicals.
Tickets for the April concert are available online at www.aberdeenperformingarts.com, by phone at 01224 641122 and at Aberdeen Box Office at the Music Hall and His Majesty’s Theatre.
