The curtain went up on Mark Benton’s Strictly Come Dancing journey as he was put through his paces with show partner Iveta Lukosiute on stage at His Majesty’s Theatre, Aberdeen.
Taking time out of show rehearsals, the Waterloo Road star showed off his moves while in full costume as Edna Turnblad on the set of Hairspray. He is currently playing the musical’s beloved character and Iveta, a two-time world dancing champion, has traveled to Aberdeen while the actor is on tour so that the pair can rehearse their routines for the BBC1 show.
Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC1 on Friday, September 27.
Hairspray opened at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London in October 2007 and at the 2008 Olivier Awards, won Best Musical, as well as a further three awards from a record breaking 11 nominations.
The show has also won Best Musical at the Evening Standard Awards, the Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers Choice Awards, the Critics’ Circle Awards and the Variety Club Showbiz Awards. More information is available on the official website www.hairspraythetour.com
