WICKED, the global musical phenomenon that tells the incredible untold story of the Witches of Oz, went on public sale on Thursday (November 21) at His Majesty’s Theatre and set a new Box Office record for an on-sale with 5403 tickets booked (£283,176 in sales).
Ticket buyers had waited in line at the Box Office from 6am. The total number of tickets sold to date (including Friends priority sales) is now 7627 (total sales of £401,375.50).The previous record was held by Dirty Dancing with 2766 tickets booked in one day, (£116,429 in sales).
Jane Spiers, Chief Executive of Aberdeen Performing Arts, the company which operates His Majesty’s Theatre, said: “This makes Wicked officially our fastest selling show of all time at HMT as the ticket sales continue to rise - even with an 18-month wait for opening night! This amazing production has done incredibly well, although we knew ticket sales would soar and expect the trend to carry on over the coming months. There is a huge amount of excitement about this iconic show coming to His Majesty’s Theatre and everyone at APA is really looking forward to welcoming the company to the theatre and to the city”

The strictly limited four-week season at His Majesty’s Theatre will run from Tuesday, May 5 until Saturday, May 30, 2015 as part of the award-winning musical’s major UK and Ireland Tour. Wicked has already been seen by over 38 million people around the world and has nine productions running concurrently. The original Broadway remains “Broadway’s biggest blockbuster” (The New York Times) after a decade at the Gershwin Theatre. The West End production is now in its eighth year and recently celebrated its 3000th performance.
In a brilliantly witty re-imagining of the stories and characters created by L. Frank Baum in ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’, Wicked tells the incredible untold story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two sorcery students. Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
