X Factor singer Niki Evans and newcomer Iwan Lewis are to join the cast of the international award-winning hit Legally Blonde the Musical, at His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen this month.
Playing Paulette and Emmett respectively, they will join the city’s own West End star Amy Lennox as Elle, Les Dennis as Callahan and Ray Quinn as Warner onstage at HMT from Tuesday, May 22 to Saturday, June 2.
It’s a return to the city for Niki who made her musical theatre debut playing the iconic role of Mrs Johnstone in Willy Russell’s moving story of Blood Brothers, which was staged at HMT in 2010 to great acclaim.
Her music career has spanned more than 20 years but she is probably best known for making the semi-final of The X Factor in 2007, when she captured the hearts of the nation. Simon Cowell praised Niki’s version of the winner’s song, saying that it was “by far the best”.
Niki began performing at the age of 12 and, within three years, was signed to Libedo Records, owned by the label PWL (Pete Waterman Ltd).
Years later, married, with two of a family and several years out of the business, she made her television debut on BBC1’s Star for a Night, hosted by Jane McDonald in 1999.
Having made the final, Niki was approached by many songwriters and went on to record songs for television commercials and campaigns and to become one of the most successful ‘non-winners’ of The X Factor.
She has since successfully built up an international concert performance reputation, performing all over the world, including with John Barrowman at the Symphony Hall and Kim Wilde and Heather Small in Dubai.
Since graduating from Guildford School of Acting in 2010,Iwan has played Nick Piazza in Fame, and Private Augenti in Passion at The Donmar Warehouse, which marked his West End debut.
Winner of seven major awards, including the coveted Olivier Award for Best Musical 2011, and directed by Tony and Olivier Award winning Jerry Mitchell, Legally Blonde the Musical tells the story of Elle Woods who on being dumped by her boyfriend Warner, decides to follow him to Harvard Law School and win him back.
