A new digital Youth Theatre project for 12-18 year olds, delivered by Aberdeen Performing Arts in partnership with Wonder Fools and Traverse Theatre. It’s free to take part in this exciting project where brand new plays will be rehearsed via online rehearsal rooms.

What is it? A new national participatory project coordinated by youth arts organisation Wonder Fools. This exciting project responds to the lack of physical spaces for young people to participate in physical activities because of the pandemic, and instead allows them to come together to make new work online.

You can read more about the project at positivestories.scot/

How are Aberdeen Performing Arts involved? Between November 2020- March 2021, Aberdeen Performing Arts will be working with 2 x groups of young people aged 12-18 on 2 x brand new plays written by Bea Webster and Steff Smith. Each young person taking part will be assigned to one of the rehearsal groups who will work on one of the 2 plays.

A play? What about social distancing? The first phase of the project (November-December 2020) will take place entirely online via Zoom and will be delivered by our talented and experienced in-house drama practitioners over a series of 2-hour weekly workshops.

From January- March 2021, we will aim to begin rehearsals in person, however if government guidelines at the time still require us to rehearse digitally, we will adapt our rehearsals to do so. The plays are written with digital participation in mind so nothing will be lost from the experience as a result.

The final performances will take place in March 2021 either in person or digitally, dependent on the government guidelines at that time. The productions be recorded and made into short films that form part of the national ‘Positive Stories for Negative Times’ project website that Wonder Fools have developed to support the project.
