TV illusionist heads the line up as Aberdeen Performing Arts unveils new shows

Aberdeen Performing Arts has unveiled a string of new shows at His Majesty’s Theatre, Music Hall and Lemon Tree. The announcement marks the first new shows to go on sale at the city venues since they were temporarily closed in March when lockdown restrictions were imposed across the country to battle the coronavirus pandemic.

TV illusionist Derren Brown will visit His Majesty’s Theatre for a five-day stint from 30 March to 3 April 2021 with a new performance titled Showman. The multi award-winning master of mind control and psychological illusion returns to Aberdeen after a hugely successful run in 2014.

His one-man shows have received wide critical acclaim with more Olivier Award wins and nominations than any other in history and fresh from his Broadway debut, Derren comes home to launch his first brand new theatre show in the UK in six years. While the content remains a closely guarded secret, an extraordinary night certainly awaits all who attend.

Aberdeen Performing Arts Chief Executive Jane Spiers said “With our venues temporarily closed, we are focussing on creating a great programme for 2021. To lead our first on sales since lockdown with an act the calibre of Derren Brown is exciting and ensures we all have something to look forward to.”

“We’d like to thank all of our customers for their incredible support, and we will be ready and waiting to welcome everyone back once it’s safe to do so. In the meantime, please bear with us while we deal with sales and show enquiries as we are currently operating with a vastly reduced number of staff due to the government job retention scheme.”

In addition, musical and visual extravaganza Exile of the African Warrior will take place on 8 May 2021 at the Music Hall. Blending African music, storytelling, energetic dancing, vibrant costumes and humour, the show tells the tale of how an exiled African Warrior became a legend.

The Lemon Tree will also get a new season underway as rock ‘n’ roll stalwarts The Quireboys visit on 6 February 2021.

Tickets for all of these shows will be on general sale on Monday 8 June with Aberdeen Performing Arts Friends able to purchase for Derren Brown on Friday 5 June.

Tickets are available from www.aberdeenperformingarts.com or phone (01224) 641122. Due to a reduced phone service, bookers are encouraged to use the website wherever possible.
