Call-Out for Submissions – Light The Way

Light The Blue Youth Arts Festival 2022

Deadline: Friday 13th May at 11pm

Calling young people and groups aged 13-21 based in/around Aberdeen.

Interested in performing as part of an exciting outdoor event during Light The Blue Youth Arts Festival?

We’re looking for individuals as well as independent and pre-existing groups of young people to create new performance material to be presented as part of Light The Way – an outdoor event popping up across the streets of Aberdeen on Saturday 18th June 2022.

What does Light The Way mean to you/your group and what stories does it provoke? Does it make you think of activism, of blazing a trail, of positive change? We’re looking for new material created by young people that explores their ideas for lighting the way to a better future.

You could be a musician or spoken word artist, part of a youth theatre, dance company or be creative in another way. You might propose a song, a devised piece, a dance or something else – all that we ask is that your idea meets the criteria below:

  • It is 2-5 minutes long
  • You and/or your group could perform it live in front of a public audience
  • The performers are aged 13-21 and based in/around Aberdeen
  • It can be performed as a pop-up outdoor performance with no set and low/no tech (we can provide a basic PA)
  • It responds in some way to the title Light The Way

Selected groups will be required to attend a short rehearsal in Aberdeen city centre in the lead-up to the event and be available for the full afternoon on Saturday 18th June. Travel bursaries may be available for selected groups.

We anticipate selecting 5-10 ideas for the event. Light The Way will be curated by young people, with an emphasis on creating a diverse line-up that responds to the brief in the most exciting way.
