We’re all thinking about our friends and family in these strange and uncertain times, juggling lots of priorities and reflecting on what matters to us most.
We want you to know that, even though the lights are out in our venues, throughout this we’re here for you. We’ll continue to bring you entertainment with projects and activities for all ages to take part in and keep our minds active. Explore our links below to find out more how you can get involved, what our team have been up to, updates on our performances and how you can support Aberdeen Performing Arts to ensure we thrive in the future as a cultural hub at the heart of city life.
Our three iconic venues, His Majesty’s Theatre, the Music Hall and the Lemon Tree remain temporarily closed until the end of June and we will continue to review this. For further updates on performances and opening times, please visit our link below, Temporary Closure FAQs.
Stay safe and we look forward to welcoming you back once this is behind us all.

CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) UPDATE: Here for you
In March we put the lights out in our three iconic venues and in April we said goodbye to our 264 furloughed staff. It’s been an emotional time and our thoughts are with our work family and our customers, artists and friends in the cultural sector as we all navigate uncharted territory. We’ve been hard hit. We’re an arts charity, most of our income is self-generated from sales and that’s been wiped out overnight.
Through all of this we wanted to let you know we’re here for you. For April at least we’ve retained a few staff who will be keeping in touch and working hard to make sure we survive the coming weeks and months.
We’re determined to take to the stage again and fight to keep the arts at the heart of community life in the North-east. For now, we won’t have Book of Mormon at His Majesty’s Theatre and we’ll need to wait a while to see Paul Weller on stage at our beautifully refurbished Music Hall, but look out for projects online and down the phone. We’ll be in touch with ticket holders about these performances very soon. We’ve also lots of ideas to keep the kids occupied - have you seen our build a theatre project online? And if you’re feeling lonely, join our "We're Here For You" telephone club and we’ll call you with a story or a poem. We're setting this up as we speak so will be available shortly.
Make sure you keep watching our social media channels to find out about all our activities and please join in!
How can you support us?
If you would like to discuss a donation please contact [email protected] and we will get back to you.
Thank you again for your ongoing support, understanding and kind messages – we really do appreciate it. We are in this together and we look forward to welcoming you all back as soon as possible.

CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) UPDATE: FAQs
How will I know if an event I am due to attend will be cancelled?
All shows in His Majesty’s Theatre, the Music Hall and the Lemon Tree have been cancelled in March and April. We will continue to monitor the latest government advice and will provide further updates on performances taking place beyond April as soon as we can.
How do I request a refund for a cancelled performance I was due to attend?
Please don’t contact us, we will contact you. All customers who have booked for a show in March or April will be contacted directly by email. We will ask you, if you can, to please consider donating your ticket money to Aberdeen Performing Arts, or there will be the option to credit your account to use for a performance at a later date. We do appreciate that this situation will impact everyone, so completely understand if you would prefer to receive a full refund.
Your support at this time is greatly appreciated.
Will cancelled shows be rescheduled?
Some events may be postponed rather than cancelled altogether. In this instance, your booking will be transferred to the rescheduled date and we will contact you by email to let you know. If you cannot make this new date, you will be given the same options outlined above to donate, credit your account or receive a full refund.
When will I receive my refund?
Due to the unprecedented circumstances, our team will be processing thousands of transactions in the coming weeks. We appreciate your patience. We aim to process refunds within 30 days of the original date of the show, at the very latest.
I have a ticket for another venue other than His Majesty’s Theatre, the Music Hall or the Lemon Tree. Is this affected?
Aberdeen Performing Arts acts as a ticket agency for many other arts and cultural venues in the city and beyond. We suggest you look out for messages from the venue you have booked for. If the venue advises us of a cancellation or postponement, then we will communicate that to customers in the same way as outlined above for our own venues.
I have paid for travel and accommodation to attend a cancelled show. Will I be reimbursed for these costs?
Unfortunately, Aberdeen Performing Arts will be unable to reimburse third party costs incurred when planning to attend a cancelled or postponed show.
How can I contact you if the venue is closed?
Aberdeen Performing Arts is responding to customer queries between 9.30am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, by phone on 01224 641122, from all social media channels and emails to [email protected] arts.com, [email protected] and [email protected]
How is Aberdeen Performing Arts ensuring the safety of its employees, artists and visitors?
Our venues are now closed to all but essential staff. Our team is being instructed to follow all the latest advice on how to keep themselves safe during this situation.
How can I keep up-to-date with the impact COVID-19 is having on performances at Aberdeen Performing Arts?
We want to reassure you that we are closely monitoring government advice on the health situation. As the situation is constantly evolving, we recommend following our social media channels and visiting our website at www.aberdeenperformingarts.com/coronavirus for latest updates. Ticketholders for upcoming performances will be advised of any cancellations or schedule changes as and when they happen.

CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) UPDATE: Aberdeen Performing Arts Venues to temporarily close until further notice
Following the UK Government announcement today to step up measures to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, we have taken the decision to temporarily close our venues, the Music Hall, His Majesty’s Theatre and the Lemon Tree, from this evening (Monday, 16 March).
This is an incredibly complex and fast-moving situation and it is with a heavy heart that we close our venues until further notice but the safety of staff, customers and artists is our number one priority. We would like to thank our audiences and supporters for all the messages of support we have received during these uncertain times. As an arts charity our livelihood depends on our ticket income and your generosity.
We will be in contact with ticket holders as soon as we can. For the moment, our Box Office team can still be reached by phone on 01224 641122 from 9.30am–6pm (Monday–Saturday), through email [email protected] or message us directly through Facebook. Please bear with us as we do our best to answer a very large volume of customer enquiries as quickly as possible.

CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) UPDATE: Anton & Erin Cancelled
The Scottish Government has asked that any event or gathering of over 500 people in Scotland is cancelled from Monday, March 16 in order to take the pressure off emergency frontline services. This advice applies to mass events across all sectors – including sporting events, cultural events, and religious gatherings.
As a result of this, the scheduled performance by Anton & Erin "Dance Those Magical Movies" at the Music Hall this week will not take place.
We appreciate your patience whilst we process a large number of enquiries related to cancellations and we will be in touch in the next 14 days with a further update on managing account credits and refunds.
As an arts charity with multiple venues, we have many events varying in scale and audience size. Many of our events will be affected immediately by this announcement and show cancellations will be inevitable at His Majesty’s Theatre and the Music Hall. Smaller-scale shows in His Majesty’s Theatre and the Music Hall will not be affected and at The Lemon Tree, our capacity is under 500 and therefore the programme will go ahead as planned.
For the moment, all three of our venues will remain open to the public and our cafes and box office service will operate as normal, Monday–Saturday from 9.30am.
If you would like to speak to someone, our Box Office team can be reached on 01224 641122 from 9.30am–6pm (Monday–Saturday), or message us directly through Facebook. Please bear with us as we do our best to send a large volume of correspondence and answer customer enquiries as quickly as possible.
