Overview

Aberdeen Jazz Festival Presents Tom McGuire & The Brassholes

Is it possible to have a more soulful voice and come from Glasgow? We don’t think so. Tom McGuire fronts the biggest fun and funky band this side of the Clyde. And they make the best live shows you can imagine. Renegade free spirits they might be, but when it comes to groove and funk, they have it rehearsed to a T. From New Orleans to Detroit, they’ve got the soul and funk vintage sound – so much so that it’s hard to believe you’re not in Tipitinas or a Stax session. Al Green, Bill Withers and James Brown are all present, but this is music for Scotland 2021, and a band that reflects the spirit of our moment. Tight rhythmic chunky beats, the hottest horns in the land, and McGuire’s uncanny vocal mix of power and beauty.

Here’s the band’s take on it : “it’s soulfull song, telling stories and sharing experiences of joy, turmoil, loss, celebration, sadness, happiness, confidence, frailty. All told hyper distilled and delivered in finely honed funk pop parcels of aesthetic joy. Life is confusing and hard, but music is fun and great, so let’s talk about it whilst at one and the same time, getting down.”

Get down to the Lemon Tree for a night of hip swaying groove and sweet soul.
