Presented by Dr Matt Pritchard

Throughout the centuries magicians have captivated audiences with mysterious and impossible acts that defy the laws of nature. Scientists also know that the world is full of wonder; spending their lives trying to explore and explain it. From pneumatically operated temple doors to augmented reality, this demo packed talk will explore the history, conflict and collaborations between these two groups of wonder workers.

Before becoming a science magician, Matt researched atomic physics at Durham University. He then went on to work at Thinktank Science Museum, Birmingham. Now as a science communicator he performs to over 50,000 people a year. He has also spent the last 18 years working as a magician and is an Associate of the Inner Magic Circle - one of only 300 people in the world at this level. In 2015 he was a finalist in the national Speaker Factor competition.
