Simon Donald, Internationally renowned lavatory humourist and co-founder of Viz Comic, made history alongside his brother and a school friend by turning their playground antics into the notorious sales phenomenon of the late 20th century. He has worked in stand-up, both as himself and as a character comedian since 2005, writing and performing ten one man shows at the Edinburgh Fringe. He appears as a compere, both at comedy clubs and events, lectures on the history of Viz Comic to arts and business courses and hosts cartoon workshops for younger students.
Simon has had a long career as a media pundit, beginning on Carlton TV’s debate programs in the early 1990s and progressing to the BBC’s I Love the 1970s, followed by numerous talking head shows including Channel 4’s 100 Greatest and Channel 5’s Top Tens.
Also a trained actor, Simon began as a teenager in the 1970s, appearing in a number of groundbreaking plays at Newcastle’s Young People’s Theatre, including Romeo and Juliet and Alan Plater’s Close the Coalhouse Door. He also performed at the city’s Gulbenkian Studio. He recently starred as Cousin Ronnie in the Amazon Prime Video sitcom I’ve Got a Job for You Gav.
