This event will also feature Kenna Anderson reading Bobby Was Gone as part of our Locals in the Limelight scheme

About the Speakers

Chris Brookmyre

Chris Brookmyre was a journalist before becoming a full-time novelist with the publication of his award-winning debut Quite Ugly One Morning, which established him as one of Britain’s leading crime writers. His 2016 novel Black Widow won both the McIlvanney Prize and the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year award. Brookmyre’s novels have sold more than two million copies in the UK alone.

Fiona Stalker

Fiona Stalker is a Senior Presenter and Reporter at BBC Scotland. She presents programme across TV & radio including Drivetime and The Sunday Show on BBC Radio Scotland and Seven Days on the BBC Scotland channel . Fiona spent many years as a reporter within Aberdeen newsroom. She previously worked for Reuters as Scotland Correspondent, lectured in journalism, and managed her own media training company.

Denzil Meyrick

After studying politics, Denzil Meyrick worked as a police officer, distillery manager, freelance journalist, and company director. He is originally from Campbeltown in Argyll, but now lives on Loch Lomondside. He is the author of the million copy bestselling D.C.I. Daley series.

The hit series is now being adapted for TV by Ocean Independent. The show will be written and directed by leading Scottish playwright and screenwriter Anthony Neilson (BAFTA 2021 nominated Best Drama Series I Hate Suzie), and feature Game of Thrones and BAFTA Scotland award winning actor Rory McCann as D.C.I. Jim Daley.

As well as the D.C.I. Daley series, Denzil is also the author of the stand-alone gangland thriller, Terms of Restitution, and three nostalgic and humorous short novels, A Large Measure of Snow, A Toast to the Old Stones and Ghosts in the Gloaming

Doug Johnstone

Doug Johnstone is the author of twelve novels, most recently The Great Silence. He

has been shortlisted for the McIlvanney Prize for Scottish Crime Book of the Year three times, and the Capital Crime Best Independent Voice once; The Big Chill was longlisted for Theakston’s Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year. He’s taught creative writing and been writer in residence at various institutions, and has been an arts journalist for twenty years. Doug is a songwriter and musician with five albums and three EPs released, and he plays drums for the Fun Lovin’ Crime Writers, a band of crime writers. He’s also player-manager of the Scotland Writers Football Club. He lives in Edinburgh.

Kenna Anderson

Kenna has over twenty years of writing experience under her belt. A passionate writer, Kenna was editor for PSN’s global publication, Network, for several years, as well as Wood’s UK weekly newsletter and a number of other corporate publications. A creative writing enthusiast her work has been published in various Scottish Book Trust projects, along with hosting her own short story and poetry page.  Offshore certified, Kenna has a BA (Hons) degree in Corporate Communications, and an Advanced Certificate in Public Relations from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.
