The Lemon Tree
The north-east’s favourite folksters, Old Blind Dogs, make a welcome return to the Lemon Tree. Few bands enjoy the longevity of the legendary, multi-award winning Old Blind Dogs, the only band to have twice won Folk Band of the Year at the Scots Trad Music Awards. Their line-up of founder member Jonny Hardie (fiddle/vocals), Aaron Jones (guitar/bouzouki/vocals), Ali Hutton (pipes) and Donald Hay (percussion) is one that is approaching superstar status in the world of Scottish folk music.
Together they create a sound that is uniquely Old Blind Dogs and which still stands at the forefront of Scottish folk and trad music. It’s fair to say that their style, clearly rooted in the Scottish tradition whilst drawing from the rhythms of Middle Eastern, rock, reggae, jazz and blues music went on to influence many bands, but nobody does it like the Dogs!
Hailing from Brittany, Startijenn (their name means energy in Breton) fuse the traditional instruments of bombarde, binioù, uilleann pipes and diatonic accordion with bass and guitar, creating a powerful, contemporary sound drawn from their own traditions and melded with flavours of jazz, rock and funk.
Another exciting evening of top class adventures in musical collaboration is in store for Northern Arc fans!
