Voices and STRAWBOYS- Double Bill
Unfortunately due to illness, the second performance “Worn” of this evening programme is cancelled. Apologies for any inconvenience. We have organised an alternative performance and such tonight will now start at 6pm with STRAWBOYS by Rob Heaslip, followed by a short 15-minute break. “Voices” will then perform at 6.40pm and scheduled to finish at 7.30pm. There will be a series of dance films in our Lecture Theatre which you are welcome to watch after the live performances. For more information, please see below.
STRAWBOYS
Strawboys is a vibrant and energetic outdoor pop-up performance, blurring the lines between traditional and contemporary dance and music.
Featuring luminous straw dancers whirling to Balkan inspired beats, the work is a unique spin on the cultural tradition of ‘The Strawboys’, also known as Mummers, Guisers, Burdie Boys and Skekklers; identified by their ornate straw costumes while out rambling streets, fields, towns and parks, parading their merriment to the joy of onlookers.
Composers Zoe Katsilerou and Eilon Morris infuse lively Balkan vibes to match the colour popping costumes and woven masks of Costume Designer Alison Brown.
Hayley Earlam and Jess Rowell
‘Voices’ a new integrated dance work inspired by themes such as inclusivity, individuality and identity. Co choreographed by Jess Rowell & Hayley Earlam featuring dancers Anderson De Souza and Brian McSweeney with live music from Alessandro Zangrando.
