Overview

Bayswater & 3rd

This immersive and multi-sensory artwork explores how we experience our environments. In urban spaces, our encounters with the “natural” are intentionally designed, curated and controlled. How can we connect to nature in city spaces that are essentially hostile to what is natural?

Inside a built shelter, plants dominate the space. Impinging on our belief in mastery and domination over our environments, this interactive sculpture invites audiences to experience their participation in nature as a relationship that is reciprocal.

Set on the street corner of Bayswater St. and 3rd Ave., the title references the trajectory and movement of this idea from genesis to creation, from Vancouver to Aberdeen. The title reflects the artist’s own Scottish-Canadian identity, the artwork as a product of local and global interaction and Aberdeen as a place of local and global happenings.
