Travis set to rock True North
Aberdeen Performing Arts today announced legendary Scottish alt-rockers Travis as the headline act for this year’s True North Music Festival. The band will play the city’s Music Hall on Saturday 24 September performing classic album The Invisible Band in full alongside their other greatest hits.
Upon its release in 2001, The Invisible Band spent four weeks at number one in the UK album charts and is certified four-times Platinum. The album was produced by Nigel Godrich, also known for his work with Radiohead as well as producing Travis’ nine-time Platinum ablum The Man Who.
Formed in the 90s at Glasgow School of Art, Travis, who songs include Why Does It Always Rain On Me, Turn, Side, All I Want To Do Is Rock and Driftwood went on to headline many of the world’s biggest festivals, including T in the Park, Glastonbury, Benicassim, Fuji Rock and Montreaux, as well as epic performances at Coachella, Roskilde and Mexico City’s Corona Capital, to name but a few. With nine studio albums to their name along with a string of Brit and Q Award wins, they have built up a huge UK and international following. Currently on a tour to mark 20 years since the release of the chart-topping album The Invisible Band, Travis will bring the celebration to the Music Hall for a stellar show at True North.
Comprising of Fran Healy, Dougie Payne, Andy Dunlop and Neil Primrose, the band last played the Music Hall in 2013 whilst also having performed at the city’s Lemon Tree early in their career and at the Castlegate for the Hogmanay celebrations in 2007. Fran Healy was part of the celebrations to reopen the Music Hall in 2018 when he appeared with the Aberdeen Performing Arts Community Choir to perform the Travis single, Sing.
Aberdeen Performing Arts Director of Programming and Creative Projects Ben Torrie said “Travis is a huge fan favourite in Aberdeen. We could not have asked for a more perfect way to reopen the Music Hall in 2018 than Fran’s performance with our community choir and to secure the band as True North headliners is a real coup for the festival and we can’t wait for them to top the bill this September”.
True North runs between Thursday 22 and Saturday 25 September and features Nitin Sawhney, Django Django, Gentle Sinners, a special performance from Mica Paris celebrating the music of Aretha Franklin and much more. The award-winning festival returns for its eighth year with performances at the Music Hall, Lemon Tree and the new pop-up venue, Wonder Hoose, which will be situated in the stunning setting of the Marischal College Quad.
Tickets for Travis go on general sale on Friday 5 August from 9.30am and can be bought at aberdeenperformingarts.com, calling 01224 641122 or visiting the box office. Tickets for all other performances at True North are on sale now and can be viewed at truenorthfest.co.uk.
