About the Speakers
Hannah Lavery is a leading Scottish poet, playwright and performer. Appointed as Edinburgh Makar (city poet) in 2021, her pamphlet Blood Salt Spring was shortlisted for the 2022 Saltire prize. She is an associate artist with the National Theatre of Scotland and one of the winners of the Peggy Ramsey/Film4 award 2022. She has written for BBC Radio Four, Lyceum Theatre, Pitlochry Theatre, Northern Stage, Traverse Theatre and various publications including The Scotsman, The Guardian and Gutter Magazine. She was also a recipient of the Adopt a Playwright Award 2020 and the New Playwright’s Award from Playwriting Studio Scotland 2019.
Shane Strachan was the 2022-23 Scots Scriever (National Library of Scotland; Creative Scotland) and was awarded Scots Champion at the 2023 Scots Language Awards. His books include poetry collection DWAMS (Tapsalteerie) and novella Nevertheless (amaBooks), and he has performed his work with the National Theatre Scotland and on BBC Radio 4. He also exhibited his spoken-word project The Bill Gibb Line in Aberdeen Art Gallery, followed by further commissions on the Aberdeenshire fashion designer for V&A Dundee. He holds a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Aberdeen where he now lectures.
