About the Speakers

Jean Kwok

Jean Kwok is the New York Times and internationally bestselling author of Girl in Translation, Mambo in Chinatown and Searching for Sylvie Lee, which was a Read with Jenna Today Show Pick. Her work has been published in twenty countries and is taught in universities, colleges, and high schools across the world. She has been selected for numerous honours, including the American Library Association Alex Award, the Chinese American Librarians Association Best Book Award and the Sunday Times EFG Short Story Award international shortlist. She is fluent in Chinese, Dutch, and English, and currently lives in the Netherlands.

Emma Christie

Emma Christie was born and raised in a book-filled house in Cumnock, an Ayrshire coal-mining town. She spent five years working as a news reporter with one of the UK’s top-selling regional daily newspapers, The Press and Journal.

She lives in Barcelona with her girlfriend, Maria Jose, and their campervan, Jarry. Emma can be found across social media at @theemmachristie and at emmachristiewriter.com

Alex Clark

Alex Clark is a critic, journalist and broadcaster. A co-host of Graham Norton’s Book Club, she is also a regular on Radio 4 and writes on a wide range of subjects for the Guardian, the Observer, the Irish Times and the Times Literary Supplement. She is a patron of the Cambridge Literary Festival, and has judged many literary awards, including the Booker prize. She is an experienced chair of live events, and lives in Kilkenny.
