A Play, A Pie and A Pint – Looking for the One

Three acquaintances, who take the same bus every day, go for a coffee after a pesky strike and end up bonding after realising they are all single.

Each week at the pub, they retell stories of their dating lives, from the good, the bad and the downright awful, and share their hopes of still finding ‘the one’.

Looking for the One is a new mini-musical comedy that shines a light on the pleasures and perils of dating as a mature grown-up.

SYLVIA DOW

SYLVIA DOW spent a working lifetime in the arts in a variety of roles, for the past 12 years as a playwright. Her first play A Beginning, a Middle and an End (Greyscale Theatre) toured in 2012, and Where is Otto premiered at the Visibility Festival, Turkey the same year. Her work includes Threads (Stellar Quines), A Wee Blether (Solar Bear) Blinded by the Light (Traverse Theatre), Rendition, Tragic Carpet, It’s Only Words (Oran Mor) and Stuff (SYLVIAN Productions). has had short work performed in festivals in London, Mexico and Australia, and is a published short story writer.

KIM EDGAR

KIM EDGAR is an Edinburgh-based folk-pop singer fuelled by her passion for social justice, folklore and feminism. Her fifth solo album Consequences was launched at Celtic Connections 2023 and has been described as “diverse, satisfying and sumptuous” and “a persuasive exploration of human interconnectedness amid an uncertain world” (The Scotsman).

SHILPA T-HYLAND

SHILPA T-HYLAND has directed Oscar by Brian O’Sullivan, The Prognostications of Mikey Noyce by Frances Poet and The Guns of Johnny Diablo at A Play, A Pie, A Pint. Her directing credits include: Wickies: The Vanishing Men of Eilean Mor (Paul Morrissey, Christopher Wheeler, Molly Morris), Revolution Days (Bijli), We’ll Meet in Moscow (Traverse Theatre), Roxana (Paisley Book Festival/Renfrewshire Leisure), and How to Disappear Completely and Never be Found (RCS); Shilpa was also the Associate Director for Burn (NTS and the Joyce Theatre), Still (Traverse Theatre), and Pride and Prejudice (Sort Of) (Blood of the Young, The Lyceum Theatre & others). She is a PhD candidate at the Royal Conservatoire Scotland.

A pie and a pint comes free with your ticket and will be available from one hour prior to the start of the performance. We offer a mince pie and a macaroni pie as standard and can also offer a vegan or gluten free alternative.
