SNJO: Rhapsody in Blue
Makoto Ozone is one of the world’s most gifted and imaginative pianists. His adaptation of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 9, Jeunehomme, for jazz orchestra in 2014 is one of the SNJO’s career highlights and his experience in leading his own big band, No name Horses, has brought tremendous fire and originality to his arrangements for a large jazz ensemble. He’ll bring his fabulous piano skills and typically individual takes on music by jazz greats, Duke Ellington, Joe Zawinul, Chick Corea, and Count Basie, in addition to George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, to this very welcome reunion.
