Have you visited The Terrace Bar and Cafe? With a wonderful range of dining options from breakfasts to evening meals, there is a focus on fresh ingredients offering a wonderful menu and seasonal specials all with the best view in the city!

We caught up with our Head Chef at The Terrace Bar & Cafe, Russell Jones and his brother, Sous Chef Lewis Shand to find out about what it’s like working with your sibling, and what we can expect from a visit to The Terrace.

How long have you worked at The Terrace?

Russell: I’ve been here since The Terrace opened, so just over a year.

Lewis: I’ve been here for three months.

You are brothers; how does that translate into your working relationship?

Russell: When we leave work, we are just brothers again but during work hours, it’s a very professional relationship. We don’t have to talk too much, there’s a shorthand that we are both tuned in to.

Lewis: The fact that we know each other so well really helps, we just know what we’re doing and it’s very comfortable.

What does a typical working day look like for you?

Russell: There’s really no such thing – every day is so different. But we do notice patterns, depending on the shows that are on.

Lewis: I joined just as panto season was kicking in, and it was flat out every day, really busy. There was a good buzz around the entire venue for the whole seven weeks.

What can we find you doing when you’re not working?

Russell: I like to look after myself, so go to the gym, and walk the dog. I’m really family orientated, so spending time with my son, who is three in March, is important.

Lewis: I will usually be relaxing, spending time with my girlfriend, watching TV, or in the pub!

What can people expect from a visit to The Terrace?

Russell: Great food using fresh, high quality ingredients from local suppliers. We want to give a taste of something different so you will hopefully be pleasantly surprised with what’s on offer. The spinach roulade or calamari is delicious.

Lewis: They can expect a beautiful setting, great food and a good night out. I’d recommend the haggis and black pudding tower!
