Find an assisted performance

Certain performances are Audio Described, Captioned or British Sign Language (BSL) interpreted. Seats are reserved for lip readers at BSL performances and deaf customers for up to four weeks before the performance. Look out for these symbols online and in our latest brochure:

   Audio Described

Audio description improves access for the visually impaired or blind where a description of the set and costumes is combined with a commentary on the action to bring the show to life. His Majesty's Theatre uses Aberdeen Audio Description Association, they have a team of 10 volunteers who provide this service. An infared headset is required to make use of this service, those are provided by our Front Of House team and can be requested on the day of the performance.

Captioned performances take place at His Majesty's Theatre and The Lemon Tree and are similar to television subtitling. The actor's words appear on a display unit (or screens) on or near the stage at the same time as they are spoken or sung.

Performances where an interpreter will stand in a visible position and interpret the spoken elements of a performance using British Sign Language.

   Sound Enhancement:

There is an infrared system for hearing impaired customers at His Majesty’s Theatre. Headsets for volume control or necklace-type receivers, for use with hearing aids, are available from our Front of House team.
